Each year in November, athletes from around the world travel to New Zealand to compete in The Southern Traverse. Lasting five excruciating days, it has been described as THE most competitive and demanding multi-sport adventure race in the world. Teams are comprised of four members in three classes – male, female and mixed.

Pain & Suffering on the Southern Traverse is the story of ordinary people who choose to race non-stop, day and night, halting only to snatch brief periods of sleep and consume high-energy food. In this race, the inner journey is as important as the physical trials.

Enormous psychological strength is required to combat the effects of sleep deprivation and exhaustion, all the while trying to beat the clock.
